How to play Lyrilusc

My beautiful birds! Dance above the battlefield! XYZ Summon!

Lulu Obsidian 's signature deck has just been released, now that she's graduated from Duel Academy and can mingle with the other denizens of Duel Links (finally free to terrorize the arena with her adorable birds of mine). Any of you who have spent any time climbing the ranks have probably heard of the rise of the Lyriluscs. Those of you who want a detailed analysis of Cards, combos and counters are in the right place, from now on you will be able to climb the ranks more comfortably.

Overview

Play style

Lyrilusc tends to take a "castle-building" approach early on, using Lulu's Ace Monster Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale and her strong protection to survive the turn and finish the game with that monster and multiple direct attacks. The deck can also set up a lot of disruption through Lyrilusc - Ensemblue Robin and counter damage with Lyrilusc - Recital Starling , when multiple direct attacks aren't enough. The deck is very consistent and durable even when playing later.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantage

  • No fear of bricking. Our special skill allows us to create some 1 card combos that would be impossible without the skill.
  • Boss monsters become very difficult to deal with thanks to Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale and Lyrilusc - Cobalt Sparrow
  • XYZ Monsters with powerful effects can be used multiple times in 1 turn.
  • Very useful skill that increases flexibility when going turn 1 and also makes going turn 2 easier

Disadvantages

  • At high ranks, they always have cards ready to counter us because this deck is now tier 1. Some cards that completely ruin this deck are Forbidden Droplet and Book of Eclipse which are very popular (mostly because of this deck).
  • Some combos will break if you eat DD Crow
  • One of the likely candidates for nerfs in future Skill/Banlist updates

You can only use this Skill's second and third effects once per Duel. 1: You cannot Normal or Special Summon any monsters, except for "Lyrilusc" monsters and Level 1 monsters. 2: Reveal 1 "Lyrilusc" monster in your hand, then send 1 "Lyrilusc" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. 3: If your opponent controls a monster, send 1 monster from your field to the Graveyard, then play 1 "Lyrilusc" monster from your Deck to your field in face-down Defense Position. (Its battle position can be changed.)

This skill allows you to send a Lyrilusc monster of your choice to the graveyard (by revealing a monster in your hand), thus activating the monster's ability and then resurrecting it from the graveyard and summoning it XYZ.

It also allows us to trade a monster on the field for a Lyrilusc in the deck. This helps you deal with certain cards like
Warning Point or Book of Moon by removing cards that have become useless or have expired, then replacing them with cards that are more suitable for the current situation.

You can use this Skill if your Extra Deck contains a WIND Xyz Monster. 1: At the beginning of the Duel, gain 1500 LP. 2: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can choose 1 face-up monster you control, and it gains 300 ATK until the end of this turn. It gains an additional 500 ATK until the end of this turn, if you have a WIND monster on your field and/or in your Graveyard, and you have an Xyz monster on your field and/or in your Graveyard.

Mainly used to boost our Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale to end the game faster. This skill is less flexible and the deck is also capable of ending the game in 2-3 turns with Bird Humming so this Skill is less often chosen unless you plan to summon monsters that Bird Humming does not allow due to its restrictions.

If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is Special Summoned from the hand: You can Special Summon 1 "Lyrilusc" monster from your hand or Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Lyrilusc - Turquoise Warbler" once per turn.

Summon this meatball from your hand for free when your field is empty, then this card will invite a friend (mostly from the graveyard). The best candidates for this effect are Lyrilusc - Cobalt Sparrow and Lyrilusc - Celestine Wagtail , the ability will ensure that this little guy will always have a target available to summon. But please note that this card needs to be Special Summoned from your hand to activate the second effect.

If this card is Special Summoned: You can add 1 Level 1 Winged Beast-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Lyrilusc - Cobalt Sparrow" once per turn. A WIND Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects.

As the heart and soul of the Main Deck, one of the reasons why this deck is so hard to deal with, this little bird not only searches for any Level 1 Winged Beast when special summoned, but also grants target protection to any XYZ Lyrilusc monster that uses her as a material.

The best part of this protection effect comes from how
it doesn't disappear after Cobalt is detached and can be used on multiple XYZ monsters in the same turn . It's usually a good idea to play x2 as with just two of these you can end up with up to 3 XYZ monsters with the ability to not be targeted, but x3 means you won't have to spend as much skill to recover, allowing you to deal with DD Crow better.

You can only use this effect of "Lyrilusc - Beryl Canary" once per turn. A WIND Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as material gains this effect. ● This card gains 200 ATK, also its control cannot switch.

This is another one-card combo card with Skill. She revives any Lyrilusc in the graveyard when special summoned. This won't happen often but you can also revive an XYZ monster, which is pretty much the only convenient way to revive Lyrilusc - our only Assembled Nightingale

A WIND Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● If it is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 "Lyrilusc" monster in your Graveyard; attach it to this card as Xyz Material.

A decent extender that gives us 2 level 1 Winged-Beasts, including itself (if you already control a Winged-Beast). This card alone can't get us off the ground because it requires another bird on the field and another in the hand, so its odds in the deck tend to fluctuate. x2 copies is where I feel this card is comfortable.

Our only Backrow search card, with the main target being Lyrilusc - Bird Call or Lyrilusc - Bird Sanctuary . Wagtail's Graveyard ability will attach to one of the Lyrilusc XYZ monsters (basically giving us 1 more free material to detach each turn), making her an absolute MVP in long matches.

An extremely versatile support tool that can search for or send Lyrilusc to the graveyard. It can also special summon a Lyrilusc monster, which is useful when putting non-special summonable cards into play.

( a big boost to Sparrow and Wagtail, cards that only activate their effects when special summoned ).

This card can make their Boss Monster dog add a large amount of XYZ material to them, greatly increasing the danger level, and also draws you a free card. This is a card that can be a bit redundant, you can win the game without it so it is completely unnecessary.

This card is a pretty good answer to monsters that would otherwise be difficult to counter, such as Borreload Riot Dragon or Doomking Balerdroch . It's not a major card to include, but it's worth considering if you don't have a Forbidden Droplet deck .

Target 1 "Lyrilusc" monster you control; the ATK of all monsters your opponent currently controls become that monster's current ATK, also their Levels/Ranks become 1. When an opponent's monster declares an attack on your "Lyrilusc" monster: You can banish this card from your GY; your monster's ATK becomes that opponent's monster's ATK, until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Lyrilusc - Phantom Feathers" once per turn.

While it is generally not recommended to play this card, it does have some uses against other XYZ decks. Specifically, Star Seraph players are currently calling out Number 69: Heraldry Crest to disable all of our monsters at once. This trap will pop up to prevent that from happening by turning all 3 level 4 monsters to level 1, thus making them unusable for Rank 4 cards.

Although in most matchups, Lyrilusc - Ensemblue Robin will be good enough to keep annoying monsters from appearing on the field in the first place, and this deck usually has no reason to worry about being destroyed by battle or taking damage thanks to Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale , so this Trap card is usually redundant.

2 or more Level 1 monsters This card gains 200 ATK for each Xyz Material attached to it. This card can attack directly. While this card has Xyz Material, it can attack a number of times each Battle Phase, up to the number of Xyz Materials attached to it. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; until the end of this turn, "Lyrilusc" monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects, also you take no battle damage.

With the power to unleash attacks equal to the amount of materials this card has, plus the ability to protect herself and her friends from all forms of destruction and damage in battle, Nightingale easily becomes our primary win condition.

The defensive backbone she brings to this deck is absolutely vicious and is basically forcing the opponent to counter and draw it in the current metagame. At this point, it's safe to say that there's no deck that can compete with her. And konami only gave her x1 in extra to keep the last bit of composure left for Duel Links Duelists.

2+ Level 1 monsters If this card is Xyz Summoned: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; it gains 300 ATK/DEF for each material attached to this card. Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card; add 1 Level 1 Winged Beast monster from your Deck to your hand. All battle damage you take from battles involving this Xyz Summoned card is also inflicted to your opponent.

As Lyrilusc - Cobalt Sparrow alone is clearly not enough, we have another Searcher for level 1 Winged-Beasts. And we'll need this one, it has only one soft drawback, Soft one-per-turn (although you hardly need to play a second one). Even if your hand is bursting with deck expansion, you can still grab a DD Crow for an extra layer of potentially nasty defense.

During the Battle Phase, this card can also take on the role when our key monster can't make it all the way to OTK on its own. The continuous effect of Lyrilusc - Recital Starling dealing the same amount of damage we take during battle becomes useful when combined with the ability to prevent us from taking damage from Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale . These two monsters combined will cause the damage to only reflect back to the opponent while you remain intact. Her slight stat boost is usually useless on the first turn if Starling is the only monster on the field, but can be used to boost the power of Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale or the opponent's monster you intend to ram your Lyrilusc - Recital Starling into.

If this card in your possession is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can target 1 other "Lyrilusc" monster in your GY; add it to your hand.

Sometimes the most effective path is the path of least resistance, and what could be "less resistance" than convincing your opponent to surrender out of desperation when their monsters keep getting knocked off the field?

While our other monsters are better at dealing damage, this is our main card for annoying effects. Depending on how you feel, you can choose to summon this card on turn one instead of Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale , but if you have the ability to summon both, do it. If your opponent does manage to send her to the grave, you get a bonus effect to pick up any Lyrilusc monster in the grave to your hand.

Due to the restrictions imposed by our Skills and the inability to add copies of our two strongest monsters, we are left with a completely unusable ninth Extra Deck slot. You can use this slot to express yourself in any way you want without any in-game benefit :v.

Personally I'd rather put Raidraptor - Rise Falcon or Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon , the key monsters of her brother Shay Obsidian and her boyfriend (?) Yuto for moral support (and the fact that they all deserve happiness after all the nonsense their story has caused :V). Maybe one day this will change and we'll get Lyrilusc - Independent Nightingale to fill this void

The newest and hottest ace in the game. It's not really great in our deck because flipping our own monster will remove the protection of Lyrilusc - Cobalt Sparrow . In Mirror Matches (where the opponent also plays Lyrilusc), you still won't be able to remove the opponent's Boss Lyrilusc monster because we don't have any removal effects, and this card won't be able to stop Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale from protecting the Lyriluscs that were set during the battle. However, this card is still good as a second card against many decks because the ability to shut down all non-Link monsters in one turn is pretty good. You can only activate 1 "Forbidden Droplet" per turn.

A must-have card in this Format (but unfortunately, only available from the Selection Box at the time of writing). Needless to say, the more you play of this card the better, as it's the best way to completely shut down opposing Lyrilusc players on turn 1 as well as improve the overall synergy of your deck.

Target 1 face-up monster on the field; until the end of this turn, that target loses 800 ATK, but is unaffected by the effects of other Spells/Traps.

Aside from Lyrilusc's ability to remove 1 backrow - Promenade Thrush , we have no options in the engine to deal with backrows, so putting in some copies of   Forbidden Lance is never wrong. Losing 700 ATK on Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale can have the effect of defeating your opponent that turn, which is a pain, of course, but it's much better than losing her forever to a surprise Ice Dragon's Prison .

If you control a face-up Level 1 monster: Add 1 Level 1 monster from your Deck to your hand. During the End Phase of this turn, take 2000 damage if you did not Normal Summon the added monster, or a card with the same name, after activating this card.

A searcher is strong enough for any level 1 card as long as you control a level 1 monster. You will take a lot of damage if you don't normal summon whatever you searched with it but that's usually not an issue for this deck. Not often played but a good budget option.

During the Main Phase, if your opponent Normal or Special Summoned 5 or more monsters this turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute as many face-up monsters on the field as possible, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your hand, then Special Summon 1 "Primal Being Token" (Rock/LIGHT/Level 11/ATK ?/DEF ?) to your opponent's field. (This Token's ATK/DEF become the combined original ATK/DEF of the Tributed monsters.) You can only use this effect of "Nibiru, the Primal Being" once per turn.

As mentioned before, Forbidden Droplet is the “silver bullet” of this deck. Be prepared to lose when you see it.

Although it's still less common now thanks to the special summoning restrictions of many popular Skills, Nibiru, the Primal Being can still absolutely punch you in the face. You can play a little more cautiously if you suspect your opponent is holding Nibiru. But don't worry too much because, like Forbidden Droplet, it can only be obtained from Selec Boxes.

You can target 1 other face-up Xyz Monster on the field; until the End Phase, this card's name and original effect become the same as that monster. You can only use this effect of "Number 69: Heraldry Crest" once per turn.

You can Ritual Summon this card with "Breath of Acclamation". When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can discard this card; negate the attack, and if you do, negate that monster's effects. (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; return both that monster and this card to the hand. You can only use each effect of "Raging Storm Dragon - Beaufort IX" once per turn.

3 Level 4 monsters Once per turn, you can also Xyz Summon "Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer" by discarding 1 Spell/Trap and using 1 Rank 4 or lower Xyz Monster you control. (Transfer its materials to this card.) Monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK. At the start of the Battle Phase: You can negate the effects of all Attack Position monsters your opponent currently controls. When this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can detach 1 material from this card; it can make a second attack in a row.

While these cards can't prevent us from using Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale to protect us during the turn, Negate all of our cards (or just our key monster in the case of Raging Storm Dragon - Beaufort IX ) can ruin our win condition. However, the effect of Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer can be countered by keeping your monster in defense position until you can remove it.

Raging Storm Dragon - Beaufort IX is only used as a trap against Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale , as it can block one of her direct attacks and permanently negate her effects, preventing any further attacks or use of protective effects that turn and forever after.

During the Standby Phase, if a face-up card is in a Field Zone and this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card in Defense Position. You can only use this effect of "Doomking Balerdroch" once per turn. Once per Chain, when a Zombie monster, except "Doomking Balerdroch", activates its effect (except during the Damage Step) (Quick Effect): You can apply 1 of these effects (but you cannot apply that same effect of "Doomking Balerdroch" again this turn). ● Negate that effect. ● Banish 1 monster from the field or GY.

                            Conclusion

Lulu's return proves that her adorable birds are much more dangerous than their underrated role in the anime suggests, with their current Tier 1 status being well deserved as a testament to their power. This deck also has a relatively low barrier to entry, with a budget of around 20k gems being perfectly viable.

The deck is not only strong but also has many potential ways of playing that I don't have time to mention here. So bye everyone
