Instructions for building and playing Spright - TCG

Instructions for building and playing Spright - TCG

Spright - a top tier deck in OCG, ranked first for more than 40 consecutive weeks in the YTC metareport since its launch, accounting for more than 51% of decks used. A very strong deck, but the question is: Will it be as strong in TCG? The answer is no need to say, after 1 week of launching PTOE with the addition of Spright to TCG, it has risen to the top 1 without any obstacles. Of course, it cannot escape YGO Vietnam's thirst to write about it, and right here, I will guide you to use and build this deck in the easiest way to understand!

Introducing Deck and Foreword

Introducing Deck and Foreword

"Spright" is an archetype of the DARK and FIRE Thunder monsters that debuted in Power of the Elements. "Spright" monsters have the ability to swarm the field with Level/Rank/Link-2 monsters. " Spright Blue ", " Spright Starter " and " Spright Jet " will start your turn to summon the final boss - " Gigantic Spright ".

According to a reliable source, the dark age in Yu-Gi-Oh is coming and most players already know it. One way or another, the inevitable collapse of what was supposed to be a slow but smooth recovery turned into another avalanche, of inexplicable proportions. The existence of Spright decks makes it possible to easily create decks without having to rely on any special mechanics or anything unique or beyond the grand scheme of things, e.g. Meta candidates then and now. With that said, the TCG variant is lucky enough to not be truly "Tier 0" like the OCG variants are. However, only time will tell if this happens, and how Splight actually becomes a truly competitive deck.

Finally, if you have come to this article, I hope you can somehow find the answer for yourself as to why Spright is so strong!

Core

Spright's general strategy is to swarm the field with level 2s and get to Gigantic Spright as quickly as possible. Once Gigantic is activated, only Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters can be summoned for the remainder of the turn, by both players. That means no Nibiru. There is no PSY-Framegear Gamma . There are no Scythe Artifacts or Golden Land Trap Monsters. Not a single thing. Most Spright Decks summon and activate Gigantic Spright , then create Toadally Awesome , which is the exact opposite of "awesome" for the opponent.

While the first eff of the Core Sprights will summon themselves every time level 2 /rank/link appears (this creates a huge field swarm power), the most notable thing will be their second eff.
  • Blue and Jet will help search (Blue is a monster and Jet is a spell/trap)
  • Red and Carrot will negate quite often (Red is a monster, and Carrot is a spell/trap). Not to mention, if you sacrifice Link or Rank to negate, you will be allowed to completely destroy that card.
Rate: Blue x3 ; Jet x3 ; Red x2-3 ; Carrot x1
Cost: Spright's Cores are usually quite expensive (in Blue it costs closer to $72.48 ) but if you can get these Cores, building a Spright set is unbelievably easy!

Spright Starter and Spright Smashers (Spright Spell)

Spright Starter

Special Summon 1 "Spright" monster from your Deck, but lose LP equal to its original ATK, also for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters. You can only activate 1 "Spright Starter" per turn.

    Spright Smashers

Banish 1 "Springans", "Therion" or "Spright" card from your hand or GY, then activate 1 of these effects; ● Special Summon 1 "Springans" monster from your Deck. ● Special Summon 1 "Therion" monster from your GY. ● Banish 1 Level/Rank/Link 2 monster you control and 1 card your opponent controls. You can only activate 1 "Spright Smashers" per turn.

Spright's core will only stop at monsters and spells, traps will not be really useful other than using handtraps like Infinite Impermanence . The special feature of these Spells is that they are all Quick-Play Spells, so their activation speed and strategy are quite high.
      • Starter is mainly used to Summon Blue onto the field to connect your combo to Gigantic. If your starting hand reaches the Starter, you can have just one more round of Normal Summon to connect the combo after reaching your boss (quite a crack because you simply have to special summon until you see It is also possible to satisfy the following r normal).
      • Smashers are often added as an option to help your ending set become safer and more reliable ( banishes monsters from both sets ).
      Rate: Starter x3 ; Smashers x1
Cost: The cost of these Spells is also quite cheap ( less than $10 ), so it is not a big problem for deck building.

2 Level 2 monsters For this card's Xyz Summon, you can treat Link-2 monsters you control as Level 2 monsters for material. The original ATK of this card that has a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster as material becomes doubled. During your Main Phase: You can activate this effect; detach 1 material from a monster you control, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 2 monster from your Deck, also neither player can Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters. You can only use this effect of "Gigantic Spright" once per turn.

2 monsters, including a Level/Rank/Link 2 monster Cannot be used as Link Material the turn it is Link Summoned. Your opponent cannot target monsters this card points to with card effects. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 Level 2 monster in your GY, or, if your opponent controls a monster, you can target 1 Rank/Link 2 monster instead; Special Summon it. You can only use this effect of "Spright Elf" once per turn.

Spright's Core Extra Deck includes only Elf and Gigantic. While the summoning conditions of both can be regardless of card type (Link, Xyz, Effect, Synchro, Fusion,...) as long as they are level 2/rank/link ; then their main effect will be the field swarm with only lvl regardless of which archetype the monster belongs to. This is great for bringing up your main boss - Toadally Awesome .

      Rate: Gigantic x2 ; Elf x1
Cost: The price of Spright Extra Deck is also within reach (while Elf is less than $10 , Gigantic is less than $3 ).

      Tech & Engine

Most Cores are quite small, not enough to build a strong deck. The real strength of the deck comes from a series of common techs and an engine full of level 2/lvl levels that has caused a stir in a series of YuGiOh!

Deep Sea Sentry and Deep Sea Diva (Deep Sea Engine)

If this card is Special Summoned: You can send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the GY, then target 1 Level 4 or lower WATER monster in your GY, except "Deep Sea Sentry"; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Deep Sea Sentry" once per turn.

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower Sea Serpent monster from your Deck.

If you are too familiar with a set of Fish Synchro or Fish
      • There's not much need to say about Diva, but the Normal Summon I mentioned above is the monster you need to use to extend your combo. In addition, the main target for Diva to summon can be Sentry or Diva herself (the eff does not limit the name of the level 2 monster summoned).
      • Sentry is extremely useful in this deck! While the first eff can completely reduce the resources in the opponent's hand, with the 2nd eff (after being summoned with Diva), it is possible to mill 2 cards and recycle 1 level 4 WATER (suitable for using Frog Engine). . Of course, milling cards like that will be quite risky (in case there is no WATER) but it helps pile resources into the GY for Elf to continuously combo.
Rate: Diva x3 ; Sentry x1 (not necessarily useful as a normal and you will want to leave slots to throw other techs in so 1 Sentry is enough, mainly used for mill decks)
Cost: Both Deep Seas are quite cheap so I think you can handle it, right? (under $3 is the same)

If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 WATER monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.

You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by discarding 1 other WATER monster. When this card is Summoned: You can send 1 Level 2 or lower WATER Aqua monster from your Deck or face-up field to the GY. Once per turn: You can return 1 monster you control to the hand; you can Normal Summon 1 "Frog" monster during your Main Phase this turn, except "Swap Frog", in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.)

Basically, this is the second main Engine of a Spright deck and the main boss of the deck when the final goal you want to summon is Toadally Awesome.
      • Ronin can summon himself at the cost of 1 Frog in his grave
      • Dupe then search the card after using it for Link Summon, or any form of sending it from the field to the graveyard.
      • Swap will help you not have to spend a normal summon but will also help increase the number of normal summons. Not to mention it can mill your grave by sending 1 level 2 WATER Aqua from the Deck or the field to the grave (giving Ronin or itself if sent from the Deck and giving Dupe if sent from the field). This will start your combos smoother and smoother
      • The final boss of the deck - Toadally Awesome, a card that seems to be too familiar to OCG and TCG Duelists as it has to stand on the banlist time and time again. Being able to add 1 Frog after each Standby Phase helps a lot in expanding the combo as well as its 2 effect. Negate , although only once per turn, does not send the negated card to the GY but sets it on your field (very useful). And if destroyed, it helps you continuously recycle your resources (can also recycle itself).
      Rate: Swap x3 ; Ronin x1 ; Dupe x1 ; TA x1-2 (depending on preference)
Cost: Swap, Ronin and Dupe all cost less than $3 , TA is quite more expensive - less than $15

Yes, that's right, the current meta cannot lack handtraps, although I know they are quite expensive (Ash alone is 23$), but if you have at least 2-3 types of handtraps, using the deck will be a lot easier.

                • Pot helps detect cards effectively but at a price that is too simple for you to manage
                • Crossout and Called have the same uses, but both should be put in the Deck because of their situational nature
                • DRNM helps you clear monsters on the opp field faster so that next turn you can end the game early.
                About the price:
Prosperity may be too expensive these days (over $100 ). Crossout is pretty cheap for what it is, but it has huge upside potential, so I wouldn't think that would last forever. DRNM is also within the price range (under $5 ). That leaves Called by the Grave, a very cheap price for this card when it only costs $1 to buy it.

Before I get to the Link-2 from your GY if your opponent controls the monster). Hence why I recommend Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax is chosen here not just because it fuses with I :P Masquerina ; but also because it unlike Accesscode Talker requires banishing important Link-2 monsters (like Spright Elf) to activate the effect. In my opinion, this is a lot more useful to both sides than just banishing a Link and trying to turn on a card (over 4300 ATK) only to have it negate with any negate on the field (or your efforts are all but destroyed with Solemn Strike if you don't use I :P Masquerina).

To start, Spright usually goes with a 1-card combo with just Starter to go up Toadally

                                1. Search and summon Blue with Starter, and use this effect to searcg Jet
                                2. Jet search Smashers and Jet+Blue go to Gigantic Spright
                                3. Use Gigantic to bring out Swap Frog, and use Swap Frog to send Ronintoadin to the grave.
                                4. Gigantic+Swap Frog = Spright Elf
                                5. Spright Elf has a Quick Effect to summon a Level 2 monster from the grave during the Main Phase, so bring Swap Frog back, use its effect again, and cast another Swap Frog
                                6. Bring back Ronintoadin by banishing the Swap Frog you just threw in the grave, then go Toadally Awesome! Set Smashers and pass the turn
Your ending cast should be Spright Elf , Toadally Awesome under one of the Elf's arrows, and a set Spright Smashers . Oh, and if there's nothing wrong with it ( actually there is, let's face it -.- it's not that easy to use Starter ), then you still have 4 cards in your hand. 4 LEAF! What's also great? The highlight of this combo is that you can use both Diva and Starter combos above, but the difference is that instead of Gigantic, you will go to Sky Cavalry . Why? Sky Cavalry cannot be destroyed in combat if it has Xyz materials left and its ATK is 2000, which is medium damage if punched with opp. So this will be a good target for you to lightly punch your opponent and Rank-Up to Downerd , and finally Zeus . So, Zeus will have up to 4 ingredients to freely counter or clear the opp field.

                                General

                                What makes Spright so great?

                                • Sprights is extremely interesting because the core strategy of the deck doesn't use too many cards. You don't need much to really get started with your Spright combo. One or two cards are all you need to get started and set up almost a full yard.
                                • What's the best part? The card is arguably one of the strongest cards since it was released - Nibiru, the Primal Being , can NOT do anything against Sprights. Nibiru is great because it absolutely destroys the field when it successfully activates, so having a deck that shuts it down completely is crazy. That's right, Branded Despia plays around Nibiru and can go full field without losing against Nibiru, but Spright just says "no" to Nibiru without offering any negate.
                                • There is one more thing about Spright where the deck uses a lot of Rank 2 . Rank 2 in YuGiOh are great cards but haven't had a chance to shine until Spright was released. Rank 2 has a certain place in all formats and is gradually being taken more seriously.

                                Weakness

                                • However, even though it's pretty great, like many other meta decks, Spright is very susceptible to hand-traps and temporary shutdowns (that's enough to finish a game).
                                • Spright's biggest weakness is too many Special Summon . I know this can be a strong point, but let's face it, there are a lot of decks that lock down your field and don't let you summon too many, or you will be limited to summon levels and summon monsters. ,... kind of. Or the most obvious thing is that if you Special Summon, the opponent will quickly Maxx "C" you immediately, and of course, if you are lucky and have the ability, you can force them to withdraw until they die, but if you are unlucky, then you will die. They already have the key to defeat you: v

                                summary

To say that Spright will be a strong deck in this format is a bit of an understatement. The deck is extremely strong and consistent and doesn't take long to start its combos. As the game gradually passes, the strength of the deck becomes even more revealed. It won't be Tier 0, but it will certainly take that spot and be one of the TCG's top decks soon after release.
