Part 1: Core deck of Despia.
Quick guide - What's good about Despia?
Sections covered in this guide:
Overview of the deck
Despia is an archetype characterized by monsters with opposing types and attributes (Fairy – DARK, Fiend – LIGHT). The deck has supports that revolve around fusion summoning play and thanks to Branded cards. The deck's gameplay can be expanded to combine with a few card races or other fusion supports such as Dogmatika, Shaddoll, Darklord,...
Core deck
Branded Opening and Aluber the Jester of Despia (Play 3 of each card)
Branded Opening
Discard 1 card, then take 1 "Despia" monster from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or Special Summon it in Defense Position, also for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Fusion Monsters. If a Fusion Monster(s) you control would be destroyed by card effect, you can banish this card from your GY instead. You can only use each effect of "Branded Opening" once per turn.
Aluber the Jester of Despia
ATK:
1800
DEF:
0
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Branded" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand. If a face-up Fusion Monster you control is destroyed by battle, or leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect, while this card is in your GY: You can target 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls; Special Summon this card, and if you do, negate the targeted monster's effects until the end of this turn. You can only use 1 "Aluber the Jester of Despia" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
Searchers are essential to help your deck connect and combo smoothly rather than relying on your card draw every turn.
Branded Opening not only helps you get a Despia monster from your deck into your hand, but also gives you the option to special summon that monster in defense position. This saves you valuable summons during your turn. Not only that, this is also a quick-play spell, you can use Branded Opening in other phases of your turn and even during your opponent's turn.
Branded Opening is also a 1-time protection (when in the grave) for your fusion monsters against 1 effect destruction.
To activate Branded Opening, you need to have another card in your hand to discard (not cost) and after successful activation, you cannot summon monsters from the extra deck other than fusion monsters. Of course, each effect of Branded Opening can only be used once per turn.
Aluber, when summoned normally or specially summoned, will help you add 1 Branded spell/trap from your deck to your hand.
If a fusion monster on your field (face up) is destroyed by battle or removed from your field by an effect, you can target 1 of your opponent's effect monsters, special summoning Aluber from grave and negate that monster's effects until the end of the turn. This effect can give you an extra shield on the field or extra materials for fusion summons, not only that, the ability to neutralize the effects of other monsters can bait 1 disruption of the opponent.
However, you can only use 1 Aluber's effect (put Branded in your hand or summon this monster from the grave) and can only do it once per turn.
Despian Tragedy (Play 3 or 2)
Despian Tragedy
ATK:
400
DEF:
400
If this card is sent to the GY, or banished, by a card effect: You can add 1 "Despia" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Despian Tragedy". You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Branded" Spell/Trap in your GY; Set it to your field. You can only use 1 "Despian Tragedy" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
When Despian Tragedy is sent to the grave or banished by an effect, it will help you add 1 more Despia monster from your deck to your hand (except Despian Tragedy). By using Despian Tragedy for a fusion summon or discarding for Branded Opening, you can easily trigger the effect of taking a Despia monster from your deck to Despian Tragedy's hand.
Another effect of Despian Tragedy is that you can banish this monster from the grave (cost) so you can set 1 Branded spell/trap from the grave to the field (with target).
You can only use 1 of Despian Tragedy's 2 effects during a turn and can only use it once per turn.
Despian Comedy (Play from 1 to 3)
Despian Comedy
ATK:
0
DEF:
2000
When your opponent activates a card or effect that targets a face-up "Despia" card(s) you control (Quick Effect): You can discard this card; negate that effect. If this card is in your GY (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 Fusion Monster; Special Summon this card. You can only use 1 "Despian Comedy" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
Despian Comedy can negate a card's effect or an effect that targets a Despia card on your field (face up) by discarding this card from your hand. This is a protection for Aluber or Theater of the Branded on your field so that these cards can be successful when using effects on the field.
Despian Comedy also has a quick effect that summons this monster from the grave by sacrificing 1 fusion monster on the field (cost). This effect can be useful in some situations to help your fusion monster avoid effects from Infinite Impermanence or similar cards.
Like other Despia monsters, you can only use 1 of 2 Despian Comedy effects during a turn and can only be used once per turn.
Dramaturge of Despia (Play 1 or 2)
Dramaturge of Despia
ATK:
3000
DEF:
1500
If a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster is Special Summoned (except during the Damage Step): You can target 1 Effect Monster on the field; negate its effects until the end of this turn. If this card in your hand or field is used as Fusion Material, and sent to the GY or banished: You can Special Summon this card. You can only use each effect of "Dramaturge of Despia" once per turn.
Dramaturge can activate the effect to summon again when sent to the grave or banished from the hand or field for a fusion summon.
Dramaturge is a disruption from Despia's main deck. If you have a fusion, synchro, xyz, or link monster specially summoned, you can negate the effects of any monster on the field (with target) until the end of your turn.
You can use each Dramaturge effect once per turn.
Despia Theater of the Branded (Play 2 or 3)
Despia, Theater of the Branded
During your Main Phase: You can Fusion Summon 1 Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field as Fusion Material. If a face-up non-Fusion Fairy monster you control leaves the field by an opponent's card effect, or is destroyed by battle: You can target 1 Level 8 or higher Fusion Monster in your GY; Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of "Despia, Theater of the Branded" once per turn.
Despia, Theater of the Branded is both a Despia card and a Branded card. Thanks to that, this environmental spell can be protected by Despian Comedy and can be brought back to the field from the grave thanks to Despian Tragedy.
Despia, Theater of the Branded gives you 1 Polymerization per turn. During your main phase, you can fusion summon 1 level 8 or higher fusion monster from your extra deck using materials from your hand or field.
If a fairy-type monster other than your fusion monster (face up) is destroyed by battle or removed from the field by your opponent's effect, you can target and special summon 1 magic monster. Level 8 or higher matches from your grave return to the field.
Despian Quaeritis (Play 2)
Despian Quaeritis
ATK:
2500
DEF:
2500
1 "Despia" monster + 1 LIGHT or DARK monster During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can change the ATK of all monsters currently on the field to 0 until the end of this turn, except Level 8 or higher Fusion Monsters. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can add to your hand, or Special Summon, 1 "Fallen of Albaz" or 1 "Despia" monster, from your Deck. You can only use each effect of "Despian Quaeritis" once per turn.
Despian Quaeritis is one of Despia's main fusion monsters at the moment.
When this monster leaves the field using your opponent's effect, you can special summon it from your deck or add it to your hand of a Despia or Fallen of Albaz monster. Although the effect is a bit passive, it is still a difficulty for the opponent when having to overcome this monster and the monster about to be summoned by Quaeritis.
Quaeritis also has a quick effect that changes the ATK of monsters other than fusion monsters that are level 8 or higher to 0. This makes it difficult for the opponent to destroy this monster through battle and forces them to use the effect to deal with it. deal with this monster, then you will be able to use the remaining effects of Quaeritis more easily.
Despian Proskenion (Play 1)
Despian Proskenion
ATK:
3200
DEF:
3200
1 "Despia" monster + 1 LIGHT monster + 1 DARK monster During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster in your opponent's GY; banish it, or Special Summon it to your field. When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster's original ATK or DEF (whichever is higher). You can only use each effect of "Despian Proskenion" once per turn.
Despian Proskenion can steal fusion, synchro, xyz, and link monsters from your opponent's graveyard by discarding them or summoning them to your field. In addition, this monster can also cause 1 additional turn of damage to the opponent when destroying a monster in battle.
Because the summoning conditions are relatively difficult and the effects are not too much to expect, the appearance rate of Despian Proskenion is relatively low and is almost only a target for Super Polymerization.
