Why am I giving you an article about Blackwing today?
  • Since it is a F2P set, I recommend it to newbies? Checked but not really because plowing is very tiring, sometimes I have to use a few Dream Tickets.

  • Because I love Synchro? More to say!
Through the above reasons, Blackwing is a card line that is really worth playing. Blackwing is an archetype line of mostly DARK Winged Beast monsters whose main strategy revolves around swarming the field and Synchro summoning.

Although they are no longer at full strength due to some cards being put on the banned list, they can still play quite stably thanks to Black Whirlwind . This can end up with you having 2 to 3 powerful synchro monsters on the field in a single turn.

Blackwing is a very aggressive Synchro beatdown deck, best enjoyed on your second turn, can kill multiple Synchro monsters in a single turn and OTK. Black Whirlwind is the main support and looks for additional Blackwing monsters that can be special summoned. Blackwing - Simoon the Poison Wind is a searcher that finds Whirlwind and additional normal summons combined together can create 2 Synchro monsters using just itself. Peak Performance is a popular Skill choice, increasing the reach of monsters from Whirlwind and allowing turn 1 Ancient Fairy Dragon to play into Necrovalley or Summon Breaker . Finally, because traps like Floodgate Trap Hole and Treacherous Trap Hole are problematic for Synchro summons, some type of backrow removal ( Cosmic Cyclone , Mystical Space Typhoon , etc.) is often standard in the deck.

Can be used each time your Life Points decrease by 1000. In the Draw Phase, instead of doing a normal draw, draw a random monster of Level 5 or higher.


Both Skills are used to bring out the deck's unique high-level monsters. However, there will be a slight difference in both

  • With DS: High-Level , you will use it when playing with a pure Blackwing deck. The purpose of this Skill is to draw Simoon after losing 1000 LP (also known as Draw Sense: Simoon). It gives you a very strong continuation when you have an empty yard. If you have the supplies in your GY, searching for Blizzard the Far North or Tornado the Reverse Wind will result in summoning 2 Synchro thanks to their effects to revive Blackwing and searching for a second from Black Whirlwind ( You don't have to use them with Simoon, they're great continuation cards too!)
  • With Bring It! , you will use it more when playing decks that add Plasma. The goal is to bring Plasma out when the field has enough materials for 3 monsters. Summon Plasma and capture enemy monsters.

[At the start of the Duel, place this card in your Field Spell Zone and flip it over.] All Dragon, Winged Beast, and Thunder monsters on the field gain 200 ATK/DEF.


This environmental magic skill gives all of your Blackwings an advantage, but more importantly expands the search range of Black Whirlwind . Since Simoon can now search for Blackwing - Bora the Spear and Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite , this Skill allows for more flexible combinations with just 1 Simoon. Note that this Skill should be used more for the Ancient Pixie Dragon version because it allows you to OTK with Pixie and a 1600+ ATK Blackwing .

Can be used if your Life Points are lower than your opponent's by 1000 or more. Until the end of your opponent's next turn, neither player can banish cards from the Graveyard or Special Summon monsters from the Graveyard. This Skill can only be used once per Duel.


Blackwing doesn't use his grave much (except Zephyros) so you will be able to use this Skill, along with your Necrovalley version, to completely optimize the opponent's grave lock. And believe me, locking graves since the beginning of Duel Links has always been used very often in tournaments, so you should also consider using this Skill.

Can be used when your Life Points are 3000 or lower, by revealing 1 monster card in your hand and selecting 1 monster on your field. The selected monster's Level will decrease by the Level of the monster you revealed until the end of the turn. (The minimum Level is 1.) This Skill can only be used once per Duel.


Level Reduction is the second strongest Skill of the deck. There's an extra expander so when your Blackwing tuners go offline, you can develop your playing without the tuners. Without interruption from your opponent, the amount of field advantage you generate is one of the best in Duel Links to date.

If you control no monsters and have this card in your hand: You can banish 1 other "Blackwing" monster from your hand; place 1 "Black Whirlwind" from your Deck face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone, then, either send this card to the GY, or immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon it without Tributing. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except DARK monsters. You can only use this effect of "Blackwing - Simoon the Poison Wind" once per turn. During the End Phase, send the "Black Whirlwind" placed by this effect to the GY, and if you do, take 1000 damage.


Simoon's normal summoning effect is considered an effect, meaning it does not count towards your normal once-per-turn summoning rule. Black Whirlwind's effect activates when Simoon is on the field, and you can normally summon another monster to activate Black Whirlwind again.

You usually want to take this opportunity to summon Simoon and then use Black Whirlwind to search for Oroshi. Special Summon Oroshi and combine it with Simoon to create a level 7 synchro. If you already have a tuner in hand, you can consider using Black Whirlwind from Simoon to search for Zephyros instead.

Blackwing has always been quite weak when Black Whirlwind is not present, but thanks to Simoon, we now have a way to put it on the field that can deal with negation effects like Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En and Silent Magician .

If this card is in your GY: You can return 1 face-up card you control to the hand; Special Summon this card, and if you do, take 400 damage. You can only use this effect of "Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite" once per Duel.


Zephyros is the ideal beast that you want to be able to use as synchro material so it stays in the grave. Once it's in the grave, you can activate its effect by returning Black Whirlwind to synchro again or just letting a third monster attack with it.

You can easily search for Zephyros if you are using a skill that gives you environmental magic power like Peak Performance / Harpies' Hunting Ground , then activate Simoon's effect.

If you control a "Blackwing" monster other than "Blackwing - Bora the Spear", you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage.


Its effect of being able to be special summoned is what makes it a good card as a starting card or as the last card to be summoned.

Its 1700 ATK also makes it the second highest ATK normal summonable monster to use with Black Whirlwind , meaning you can look for most Blackwings in the deck, with the exception of Kris the Crack of Dawn .

If you control a "Blackwing" monster other than "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind", you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; that target's ATK and DEF become half its current ATK and DEF.


A level 3 tuner can be easily summoned to level 7. This is the tuner you want to look for most of the time, especially if your opponent has a face-up monster.

Besides being just a level 3 tuner, it has a pretty powerful effect that's also not difficult once per turn. If you can special summon Gale twice, you can use its effect on the same monster twice. You will be able to overcome most monsters, even if they have 10,000 ATK.

If you control a "Blackwing" monster other than "Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn", you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can only Special Summon "Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn" once per turn this way. Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by Spell/Trap effects.


Similar to Bora, Kris is a level 4 Blackwing who can special summon himself if you control another Blackwing . It is also immune to magic and trap damage, once per turn, with 1900 ATK to be searched with Black Whirlwind . The only problem with Kris is that it is limited to being special summoned once per turn, so you don't want to end up with multiple copies of it in your hand. Still a staple core card to use in decks as it serves as a good normal summon and synchro material. If you are on a budget, you can alternatively play a Kris instead of a third Bora. We would prefer to use Bora since it is not limited to once per turn. The sum of Bora and Kris copies should be 4-5.

This is a level 1 monster used with Simoon to synchro to level 7. Normally you should only use 1 copy because its limit 2 overlaps with Raikiri - a synchro monster needed in your Extra Deck.

If you are using the environmental magic skill to gain +200 ATK, you can summon Simoon to search Zephyr / Bora, then normal summon the card you searched for to be able to add Oroshi.

    When a "Blackwing" monster is Normal Summoned to your field: You can add 1 "Blackwing" monster from your Deck to your hand with less ATK than that monster.


    Black Whirlwind is the main core search card in the deck and is the heart of the deck. It can be activated twice per turn if you use Simoon's effect.

    If you are using Peak Performance , summoning Simoon will grant an additional monster with under 1800 ATK (instead of 1600), allowing you to search for Zephyros. If you already have Black Whirlwind in hand, remember to activate it before using Simoon's effect to search twice.

    During the End Phase, Black Whirlwind placed on the field by Simoon's effect is sent to the GY and you take 1000 damage, but you can actually prevent this from happening by returning that continuous spell card to your hand. through the effect of Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite .



    Other Blackwings

    Other Blackwing cards will often be quite situational without finding their main slot in competitive versions of the deck. Therefore, you have to be quite careful in using them. Anyway, don't worry too much, YGO Vietnam is here to help you analyze them.

    When this card is Normal Summoned while your opponent controls a Special Summoned monster: You can target 1 "Blackwing" Tuner in your Graveyard; you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except "Blackwing" monsters, also Special Summon that monster, but its effects are negated.


    Their summoning abilities will vary a bit, but those effects are all very powerful and quite situational. That's why they are not used as much as Core leaves.

    • Harmattan, with its built-in level adjustment, can allow for versatile plays. Most notably, it targets level 7 synchro to synchro summon Assault Blackwing - Onimaru the Divine Thunder . It can also be used with Gale or Steam to synchro out level 8.
    • Pinaki combines well with a level 4 Blackwing to make a level 7 synchro play and provide a follow-up play for the next turn. It is also the top target for Blackbird Close 's costs.
    • If you read Sirocco's effect carefully, you will notice that it is not limited to just your monsters. This makes Sirocco an incredible tool to punish over-swarming the field in similar matchups, as it takes all of the opponent's Blackwing's ATK and attacks for massive damage.
    • Breeze can be considered a F2P replacement for 1 Gale as a level 3 tuner that can be special summoned once searched. Do not use more than 1 copy! Also note that it locks you into Blackwing Synchro and cannot be special summoned from the hand like Gale does.
    • Once a staple in this deck, Steam has fallen out of favor as this deck has its top lvl 3 tuner. Steam allows you to continue the combo after the initial level 7 synchro summon, leading to a great field finish. However, forced Token effects can become awkward and are often unnecessary to end the turn. Steam the Cloak's respawn effect is limited to once per match. Additionally, it also has a normal summon, which is why we should keep it at a maximum of 1.
    • Vayu can extend your turn by summoning synchro from your grave. It also has great synergy with Assault Blackwing - Sohaya the Rain Storm . However, Vayu probably warrants a more specialized build and does not match the current standard version. However, it is a card that needs careful consideration .
    • Tornado the Reverse Wind is a card that has good recovery in later turns, but you're better off using better cards to prevent that situation than playing into a situation like this.

    Cannot be Special Summoned. When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 Level 4 or lower "Blackwing" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in Defense Position.


    Although these cards seem strong when reading through their effects, they are not yet used much in Duel Links and maybe, if they are, in the future but we don't know what will happen. Anyway, here's what they offer.

    • Jin's effects are quite unpredictable. What makes it considered for use is its level and attack power. Jin is a level 1 tuner that allows you to search for Oroshi using Black Whirlwind . Therefore, you can combine a single Simoon without having to use Peak Performance to level up your deck. In the Peak Performance version, you will use the second Oroshi instead of Jin.
    • It's a fairly stable card in the TCG, but Blizzard has yet to find its footing in Duel Links. Setting up your grave is more difficult to do in Duel Links. Normal summon your Blizzard and Simoon, the only way you get an extra normal summon, banish a card from your hand, they have some kind of anti-synthesis power. Plus Blizzard is best used for easy lvl 6 synchro systems, which current builds don't. We may see more of this when we get Blackwing - Nothung the Starlight someday.

            If you control a "Blackwing" monster: Destroy all face-down Spells and Traps your opponent controls. If you control exactly 3 "Blackwing" monsters, you can activate this card from your hand.


            Basically, these trap cards support Blackwings a lot, in almost every situation they can be used. However, they are only considered Tech and not a Core, so their use is quite unlucky. Let's take a look at their effects!

            • With Bombardment, it acts as a booster that increases the ATK of Blackwing Synchro to overcome other strong enemy monsters. Other than that, it reduces the resources on your field so make sure you know if you need to use it or not.
            • As for Black Return , I feel like this is a fairly underrated trap card even though its effect is OP. It's also great to both increase LP and get rid of a nasty monster. Activation is also simple, you just need to special summon 1 Blackwing , this is not really difficult. Perhaps because it's a trap, you have to wait until the second turn to activate it, making it underrated?
            • Blackbird Close is similar to the Rebirth of Parshath card. The main difference is that Blackbird Close only negates the effects of monsters on the field, at the cost of Blackwing monsters on the field and you end up summoning Black-Winged Dragon instead. Close can be activated from your hand if you control a Blackwing Synchro, a reason to leave smaller Blackwing monsters on the field.

                                                                  Although it is an old meta line, Blackwing also accounts for a large percentage of the top archetype lines in the current Duel Links meta.
