If you have watched the anime Yu-gi-oh! 5DS must know a rather special summoning method that does not exist when we play: Dark Synchro . It is Synchro Summon but instead of adding the levels of monsters, Dark Synchro will ask us to subtract the levels of material monsters from each other.
Ursarctic is a deck with Synchro monsters that all need to be summoned using the Dark Synchro method. This is a pure Synchro deck with an Extra deck full of white cards, the only one that can survive the Meta. So let's explore what they have and how to play!!
Instructions for playing Ursarctic
Sections covered in this guide:
Style play
One thing you need to know is that Dark Synchro does not officially exist in the game, so it is replaced by the summoning condition: Send material monsters from the field to the grave (usually 1 tuner and 1 non-tuner). Let them subtract each other to calculate the level of the Synchro monster that needs to be summoned)
The main strategy of my deck will be summarized as follows :
- Try to get Ursartics in the main deck into your hand as much as possible and use them as handtraps
- Can exploit the strengths of Ursarctic: Counter XYZ and Link
- Clear the field and OTK through skills
Ursarctic Synchro
This time the order to write will be a bit different, I will talk about the most characteristic part of the Deck which is the Ursarctic Synchro!!
Ursarctic Polari (x2)
Ursarctic Polari
ATK:
700
DEF:

Cannot be Synchro Summoned. Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 2 monsters you control with a Level difference of 1 to the GY (1 Tuner and 1 non-Tuner). If this card is Special Summoned: You can activate 1 "Ursarctic Big Dipper" directly from your Deck. You can Tribute 1 Level 7 or higher monster; add to your hand, or Special Summon, 1 "Ursarctic" monster from your GY. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Polari" once per turn.
First of all, let's talk about this cute bear. This is the most special Synchro card in Yugioh when its level is 1 - meaning this card cannot Synchro in the usual way. (and yep Dark Synchro)
Ursarctic Polari will be a make play card for you that we will always want to summon to perform combos. Summoning Polari is quite simple when the Ursactic tuners are all level 8 and the regular Ursarctic is level 7 (8-7=1)
and when on the field it will immediately activate the Field Ursarctic Big Dipper card (a very powerful field card that I will talk about later)
Then, thanks to the Field card that allows us to use materials from the grave, Polari can activate the second ability and summon a level 8 tuner and continue Dark Synchro 8-1=7 to produce Ursarctic Synchros.
Ursarctic Grand Chariot (x1)
Ursarctic Grand Chariot
ATK:
2700
DEF:

Cannot be Synchro Summoned. Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 2 monsters you control with a Level difference of 7 to the GY (1 Level 8 or higher Tuner and 1 non-Tuner Synchro Monster). If this card is Special Summoned: You can target up to 2 other cards on the field; destroy them. Once per turn, when a card or effect is activated that targets an "Ursarctic" card you control (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 monster from your hand or field; negate the activation.
One of the two Ursarctic Synchro bosses, this card is not inferior when compared to Sepentrion. When summoned to the field, it allows us to destroy up to 2 of opp's cards. Quick Effect negating effects that target cards with the word "Ursarctic" (including field cards, countinous spells and monsters) will be really effective when field cards allow us to banish monsters from the grave instead of sacrificing them on the field. .
*Important part : If you already understand the effect but don't want to listen to the card translation, then skip the above part and watch this part =)))
- We can see that the Atk of this card is 2700, suitable for condition 2 of the skill. From there, combining the field clearing ability of this card with Skill, we will have Free 2 Beater to hit more than 4000 life points and OTK right in turn 2.
Ursarctic Septentrion (x1)
Ursarctic Septentrion
ATK:
3000
DEF:

Cannot be Synchro Summoned. Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 2 monsters you control with a Level difference of 7 to the GY (1 Level 8 or higher Tuner and 1 non-Tuner Synchro Monster). Negate the effects of face-up monsters without a Level that were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) (except during the Damage Step): You can add 1 "Ursarctic" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Ursarctic Septentrion" once per turn.
This big guy will be the Boss of the deck (until mixed with skills and synchronization :v). His first effect counters XYZ and Link cards as this is a Countinous Effect (permanent effect without needing to be activated) that negates all unleveled monsters summoned from Extra .
Atk 3000 is also quite large, in addition, quick search during the opponent's turn also brings a lot of money to Ursarctic because Ursarctic Monsters are no different from Handtraps (however, it is only one per turn ).
*Bonus Info :
If you summon Septentrion on turn 1 and have a card that causes negative effects to opps in your hand (eg Megatanus) and opp special summon, we will prioritize searching for Mikpolar or Miktanus.
Bonus Departure in the grave and Big Dipper on the field, we will manage to summon those Ursarctics to the field. Then we will have: 1 time to prevent opp from dancing + 1 Ursarctic in hand + 2 Ursarctic on the field (1 tuner and 1 non tuner) to prepare for the next turn

1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters Must be Synchro Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's maximum number of attacks per Battle Phase equals the number of non-Tuner monsters used as its Synchro Material. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated: You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. When this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck.

Each of the following effects can only be used once per Duel. (You can change the battle position of Set monsters) ● Send 1 "Synchron" monster or 1 Level 2 WIND Warrior-Type monster with 1000 or less ATK from your hand to your Graveyard. Then, add 1 "Synchron" monster from your Deck to your hand and Set 1 "Synchro Chase" from outside of your Deck. ● Send all monsters you control to your Graveyard. If the total of original ATK of the monsters sent to the Graveyard is 2500 or more, Set 2 random Signer Dragons with different names out of 4 from outside of your Deck. ● Can be used turn 3 and onward. Return 1 "Stardust Dragon" from your field/Graveyard to your Extra Deck. Then, change the Level of all Synchro Monsters you control to 2 and Set 1 "Life Stream Dragon" from outside of your Deck. This Skill can only be used if you begin a Duel with an Extra Deck that contains a Level 10 or higher LIGHT monster and no monsters other than Synchro Monsters, and a Deck that contains at least 7 Level 2 or lower Warrior-Type or Machine-Type monsters.
This deck can also use many other skills, but in this article I will focus on Ursarctic & Synchron . Because in my opinion, this is the strongest playing style for Ursarctic right now.
This skill has up to 3 effects (counting dirty buffs as equal to BLS)
- The first one simply allows us to exchange cards to search (but usually it will be difficult for us to lose money when combined with the effects of Synchron).
- The second one will clear our entire yard to give 2 pieces of meat >2000 ATK. This effect is great because sometimes we can't kill opp with 2700 or 3000 ATK. Clearing your own yard is sometimes beneficial if you eat Warning Point, Floodgate, Book of moon ,...
- The third thing is simply that having Stardust Dragon combined with the second eff above will ensure we have 1 Shooting Quasar Dragon with 4000 ATK - 2 punches - 1 Quick Negate one per turn
Main deck Monster
The Ursarctics in the main deck, in addition to being materials, can also act as Handtraps
Ursarctic Megatanus, Ursarctic Megapolar and Ursarctic Megabilis (Ursarctic Tuner)
Ursarctic Megatanus
ATK:
2400
DEF:
700
During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 other Level 7 or higher monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except monsters with a Level. If this card is Special Summoned while you control another "Ursarctic" monster: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Megatanus" once per turn.
Ursarctic Megapolar
ATK:
2500
DEF:
700
During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 other Level 7 or higher monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except monsters with a Level. If this card is Special Summoned while you control another "Ursarctic" monster: You can target 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls; destroy it. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Megapolar" once per turn.
Ursarctic Megabilis
ATK:
2800
DEF:
700
During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 other Level 7 or higher monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except monsters with a Level. If this card is Special Summoned while you control another "Ursarctic" monster: You can target 1 card in your opponent's GY; banish it. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Megabilis" once per turn.
Ursarctic tuners all have level 8. In addition to being used as materials like Synchro, they can also act as HandTraps. The 3 cards all have different effects that create different types of disruption:
- Megapolar (x1): Destroy 1 Spell/Trap card (not much different from MST)
- Megatanus (x2): select 1 opponent's monster and change it to face-down defense position (disguised Book of Moon)
- Megabilis (x2): Banish 1 card from Opp's grave (quite similar to DD Crow)
Ursarctic Miktanus (x2-3)
Ursarctic Miktanus
ATK:
700
DEF:
1700
During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 other Level 7 or higher monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except monsters with a Level. If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 "Ursarctic" monster in your GY, except "Ursarctic Miktanus"; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Miktanus" once per turn.
Unlike Ursarctic tuners, normal Ursarctics can activate their effects as soon as they are summoned to the field.
Regarding Miktanus, when summoned it will recover 1 Ursarctic monster from the grave. We will often search for this card in our hand when we already have Mikpolar or when we have too many resources.
Ursarctic Mikpolar (x3)
Ursarctic Mikpolar
ATK:
700
DEF:
2000
During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 other Level 7 or higher monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except monsters with a Level. If this card is Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Ursarctic" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Ursarctic Mikpolar". You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Mikpolar" once per turn.
Coming to the important card of the deck - Ursarctic's Searcher: Mikpolar.
Similar to Miktanus, it does not need another ursarctic to exist on the field to activate the eff, it just needs to be summoned and searched. This is a hard one per turn effect, so even if you summon it again, you can only search once. And like any other Ursarctic, it can be summoned during opp's turn and search for a free handtrap depending on the situation.
Ursarctic Spell
Ursarctic Big Dipper (x1)
Ursarctic Big Dipper
Once per turn, if your "Ursarctic" monster would Tribute a monster(s) to activate its effect, you can banish 1 Level 7 or higher "Ursarctic" monster from your GY instead. Each time a monster(s) is Special Summoned, place 1 counter on this card. Once per turn, if a monster(s) is Special Summoned and an "Ursarctic" Synchro Monster is on the field (except during the Damage Step): You can remove all counters from this card (min. 7), then target 1 monster your opponent controls; take control of it.
The field card will be one of the key cards that makes the ez game much better.
Ursarctic Polari will pull this card straight from the deck onto the field, so we only need x1 to avoid deadhand (and we also never want to draw it in the first hand like when playing Salamangreat ). Maybe you already know that its effect is to help Ursarctics use materials from their graves instead of on the field or in their hands, but I want you to pay attention to this a bit :
- As soon as Polari brings this Field card onto the field, the game will ask if you want to activate the effect of the Ursarctics in your hand (because they are quick effects so they can be chained). At that time, you should NOT activate it because at that time the field card is only on the field but its effects have not yet been promoted -> so we will have to use the materials in hand, not in the grave.
- Its second effect is also very good: 7 counters steal 1 monster from opp (7 counters is really not much for Ursarctic when it spams a lot of monsters, in addition, opp will definitely have to Special Summon)
Ursarctic Departure (x3)
Ursarctic Departure
Discard 1 card; add 2 "Ursarctic" monsters from your Deck to your hand. If you would Tribute a monster(s) to activate an "Ursarctic" monster's effect, except the turn this card was sent to the GY, you can banish this card from your GY instead. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Departure" once per turn.
The search ability of this card is too great, allowing us to search up to 2 Ursarctic monsters (while we still have x3 Mikpolar, so it will be very difficult to deadhand). Even though you have to discard 1 card, it's not a problem because it only requires any card , not a specific type of card (for example, if it requires the discarded card to be Ursarctic, that's a bit tiring).
Its second effect is a replacement material for Ursarctic monsters. You need to remember that Ursarctic Big Dipper only gives you 1 banish card from your grave in 1 turn, so this card will be really effective on opp's turn.
Ursarctic Radiation (x3)
Ursarctic Radiation
Activate this card by placing 7 counters on it. Each time an "Ursarctic" monster(s) is Special Summoned from the hand or Extra Deck: You can remove 1 counter from this card; draw 1 card. Once per turn, during the End Phase: You can target 1 "Ursarctic" card in your GY, except "Ursarctic Radiation"; shuffle it into the Deck. You can only control 1 "Ursarctic Radiation".
The second most important spell next to Ursarctic Departure which needs to be x3. It allows you to draw up to 7 times each time a specially summoned Ursarctic monster appears on the field ( the crazy thing is that it's not one per turn ).
Another important thing is that it helps us Recover Ursarctic monsters from the grave back into the deck when there is a fact that we draw-search- and use too many things so this Recover effect of Ursarctic Radiation is really necessary.
Ursarctic Slider (x0-1)
Ursarctic Slider
Target 1 of your "Ursarctic" monsters that is banished or in your GY; Special Summon it, but it cannot attack, also destroy it during the End Phase. For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon, except monsters with a Level. You can only activate 1 "Ursarctic Slider" per turn.
Although this Quick Spell card is not widely used, I find it quite good. When we banish too many monsters from the grave to activate the effects of Ursarctic monsters, this is truly the savior.
1 Quick Spell can be activated during your opponent's turn. When Ursarctic monsters are summoned through this card, they can still activate their effects, so there are 2 ways to use this card:
- Activate on your turn to kill Synchro
- Activate during turn opp to destroy them (for example, summon Megatanus to set enemy monsters)
Synchronous
Synchrons are very important to this deck because the Skill condition requires us to have up to 7 Warrior or Machine cards below level 2. In addition, level 1 Synchrons and non-tuner Synchrons will do many things that I will talk about below. This.
Jet Synchron (x2-3)
Jet Synchron
ATK:
500
DEF:
0
If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can add 1 "Junk" monster from your Deck to your hand. If this card is in your GY: You can send 1 card from your hand to the GY; Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use 1 "Jet Synchron" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
First of all, let's talk about Jet Synchron: It has the ability to re-summon while in the grave , making it an ideal card to discard by Ursarctic Departure or Condition 1 of the Skill .
Unknown Synchron (x1-3 optional)
A level 1 tuner with the ability to self-summon will help us in quite a few difficult situations (however, please note that in a battle you can only special summon this card through an effect once, remember, once). TIME 1 MATCH)
Synchron Explorer (x1)
Call up 1 Synchron from the grave (this will be the card we prioritize Search through skill so only need x1)
Synchro Chase (Through skills)
Synchro Chase
Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to the effect activations of your Synchro Monsters with "Warrior", "Synchron", or "Stardust" in their original names. If you Synchro Summon a "Warrior", "Synchron", or "Stardust" Synchro Monster: You can target 1 monster in your GY used as its material; Special Summon it in Defense Position. You can only use this effect of "Synchro Chase" once per turn.
Thanks to activating the skill, we will have this card for free on the field. In cases where we consider the Shooting Quasar option, this card will even help us summon Ursarctic as Synchro material.
Synchron Carrier (x0-1)
Synchron Carrier
ATK:
0
DEF:
1000
During your Main Phase, you can Normal Summon 1 "Synchron" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. (You can only gain this effect once per turn.) If another "Synchron" monster is sent to your Graveyard as a Synchro Material for the Synchro Summon of a Warrior or Machine-Type Synchro Monster, while you control this card: You can Special Summon 1 "Synchron Token" (Machine-Type/EARTH/Level 2/ATK 1000/DEF 0). You can only use this effect of "Synchron Carrier" once per turn.
You can also use it, but I really don't recommend it because if you want to combo with this card, you need 2 LEAVES IN YOUR HAND. Instead we should use Synchron Explorer.
Extra deck
I will not mention Ursarctic Synchro again in this section but focus on other extra cards.
Shooting Quasar Dragon and Stardust Dragon (x1)
Shooting Quasar Dragon
ATK:
4000
DEF:
4000
1 Tuner Synchro Monster + 2 or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters Must be Synchro Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's maximum number of attacks per Battle Phase equals the number of non-Tuner monsters used as its Synchro Material. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a card or effect is activated: You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. When this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck.
Stardust Dragon
ATK:
2500
DEF:
2000
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters When a card or effect is activated that would destroy a card(s) on the field (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. During the End Phase, if this effect was activated this turn (and was not negated): You can Special Summon this card from your GY.
This Stardust-Shooting Quasar pair deserves 2 slots.
- First, Shooting Quasar will meet the skill activation conditions for you
- Second, once we have summoned Stardust on turn 3 onwards, we will be sure to summon Shooting Quasar if there are no problems based on Skill.
- Third: Stardust level 8 (While Ursarctic non-tuners level 7 and Synchron tuners level 1 = ez summon)
- Wednesday: Shooting Quasar is extremely strong (4000 Atk, punch twice, quick negate,...)
Ravenous Crocodragon Archethys (x1 )
Ravenous Crocodragon Archethys
ATK:
1000
DEF:
1000
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters Gains 500 ATK/DEF for each card in your hand. You can only use each of the following effects of "Ravenous Crocodragon Archethys" once per turn. ● If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can draw cards equal to the number of non-Tuners used for its Synchro Summon. ● (Quick Effect): You can discard 2 cards, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.
There are two things that make Ravenous suitable for Ursarctic: its quick effect to clear the field and its level 9:
- Ursarctic tuners level 8+ Ursarctin Polari level 1=9
- Stronger when Ursarctic non-tuner level 7+ Polari + Synchron tuner level 1= 9 (at this point we will draw up to 2 cards)
Draco Berserker of the Tenyi (x0-1)
Draco Berserker of the Tenyi
ATK:
3000
DEF:
0
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters When your opponent activates a monster's effect (Quick Effect): You can banish it. If this attacking card destroys an Effect Monster by battle and sends it to the GY: This card gains ATK equal to the destroyed monster's original ATK, also it can make a second attack on a monster during this Battle Phase. You can only use each effect of "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi" once per turn.
We can choose Draco instead of Ravenous to get 1 quick banish and x2 punches. However, I still like Ravenous better because we can Otk without needing Draco's effect and Draco's effect is banish, not negate.
Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake (x0-1)
Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake
ATK:
3000
DEF:
2800
1 WIND Machine Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can activate 1 of these effects; ● Destroy all other cards on the field. ● Negate the effects of all face-up cards your opponent currently controls. If this card in your possession is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can add 1 "Speedroid" monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake" once per turn.
This is a card I really like to use when playing Ursarctic for a few reasons:
- Firstly, it is a f2p card exchanged for a ticket
- The effect of exploding the ball on the field is exactly the same as Black Rose Dragon (But much better because there is nothing wrong with it)
- After exploding the field ball and remaining alone on the field, we can gently activate the Skill's second ability : Summon 2 pieces of meat >2000 Atk and finish off the opp.

With just any Synchron tuner card, we can easily make this combo:
- Use the skill to send the Synchron tuner card to the grave (not necessarily Jet Synchron) and search for Synchron Explorer
- Normal summon Synchron Explorer and revive the discarded tuner card from the grave
- Then we will have 2-1=1: SYNCHRO summon URSARCTIC POLARI (field bonus)

I'll say it quickly because there's really no need to say it, you guys already know:
- Try to Summon Stardust (e.g. Mikpolar + Unkown Synchron ez level 8)
- Press skill for a while and you will have Quasar =))))))))
Pure Ursarctic combo
Ursarctic Departure
Discard 1 card; add 2 "Ursarctic" monsters from your Deck to your hand. If you would Tribute a monster(s) to activate an "Ursarctic" monster's effect, except the turn this card was sent to the GY, you can banish this card from your GY instead. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Departure" once per turn.

Ursarctic Polari
ATK:
700
DEF:
1000
Cannot be Synchro Summoned. Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 2 monsters you control with a Level difference of 1 to the GY (1 Tuner and 1 non-Tuner). If this card is Special Summoned: You can activate 1 "Ursarctic Big Dipper" directly from your Deck. You can Tribute 1 Level 7 or higher monster; add to your hand, or Special Summon, 1 "Ursarctic" monster from your GY. You can only use each effect of "Ursarctic Polari" once per turn.
We will do this combo when we have too many Ursarctic cards in hand:
- Use Departure to replenish manpower, usually Mikpolar and any other Ursarctic (advantage +1 card due to discarding 1 already :v)
- Mikpolar tributes another Ursarctic card in hand, summons itself and searches for 1 Ursarctic tuner if not available (+1)
- Ursarctic tuner tribute adds cards to your hand and onto the field
- Synchro 8-7=1 summons Polari and activates Ursarctic Big Dipper
- Activate Polari 's effect, banish 1 card from the grave and summon Ursarctic tuner again
- Synchro 8-1=7 summons Ursarctic Synchro ( Sepention or Grand Chariot )
