Let's build Monarchs Version 2023!!
Long time no see, one of the recent boxes, Zillion Thunder, gave us some pretty good Monarchs support cards. Many people open this box to get D Hero and accidentally also open Monarchs so no more lengthy, let's build and write a guild.

Instructions for playing Monarchs
Sections covered in this guide:
Skills
Getting x3 Pantheism of the Monarchs cards is really fantastic! It does everything for this deck. Without exaggeration, without this skill Monarchs are almost unplayable.
Skill's second effect does not seem to affect most matches, but it is still quite useful when allowing us to exchange 2 cards to give 1 Tribute Monster. The conditions to use the skill are not too heavy because after all we will only use more than 6 Monarchs and 6 Spell/Trap.
Monarchs
Ehther the Heavenly Monarch is the main thing we use to disrupt and destroy the opponent's field (Main disruption) and we should play x2-3 copies of this card, mainly depending on how many Deck Size cards you want. Ehther's main target when special summoning is Kuraz the Light Monarch , it's best to play with 2 copies, but sometimes you can consider increasing the number to 3 copies because you will find you don't have enough for Ehther. Summon that Kuraze.
Erebus the Underworld Monarch possesses the ability to remove cards from the strongest opponents in Yu-Gi-Oh with a non-targeting and non-destructive effect, also allowing us to reuse other Monarchs from the grave. . Like Ehther, x2-3 copies depending on how many cards are in your deck.
Vassal and Squire
Edea the Heavenly Squire is the most important card in the deck and you always want the chance to see her on the first turn, providing a powerful Effect similar to Tour Guide, special summoning an Eidos the Underworld Squire directly from the deck of cards. In my opinion, I always play x3 Edea and x2-3 Eidos. As for the 2 Vassal, Mithra the Thunder Vassal and Landrobe the Rock Vassal are not necessary but provide both effects quite well and can be good alternatives for the deck (0-1x)
Spell/Trap
Tenacity of the Monarchs is our Searcher for all Spell/Trap Monarchs, and also the Banish material for The Prime Monarch ( always play the maximum allowed amount of both ).
Engines
Burning Abyss's key monsters like Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss and Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal are very good at milling decks to the grave. The Burning Abyss engine works extremely well with Monarchs, providing a resource-filled grave setup while still maintaining control on the field with a DANTE - Cir loop, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss acts as a tribute source for summon.
Incorporating Engine Lightsworn into a deck like Monarch provides many benefits, including the ability to self-destroy cards and send Monarch Spells/Traps to the grave quickly, filling the graveyard with valuable resources. This activates the effects of Spell/Trap Monarchs, such as The Prime Monarch and Pantheism of the Monarchs.
Furthermore, Lightsworn also gives us the ability to summon rank 3 Xyz and level 7 Synchro monsters, expanding the deck's toolbox and providing more tactical options. The combination of Lightsworn and Monarch creates a deck that is more flexible than ever, excelling in resource management, grave utilization, and the ability to summon powerful monsters from the Extra deck.
Super Quantum's summoning condition is an upgraded version of Cyber Dragon, allowing it to be used as a sacrifice material or as the sacrificed monster itself. Its summoning effect allows you to continuously recast Super Quantums from the grave for additional uses. One of the benefits of Super Quantum Red Layer is its versatility, so it is possible to include x2-3 copies of it in your Deck, making a very valuable secondary Engine. By summoning XYZ Super Quantal Mech Beast Magnaliger and The Prime Monarch, you can create a lot of nasty disruptions during your opponent's turn.
Slot Limit 1
In fact, when we don't use any Engine and are limited or banned, we will immediately think of choosing cards that are limited to 1 to put in the deck and that choice is Reinforcement of the Army or One for One . You should prioritize ROTA if you want increased stability without any weaknesses as Edea the Heavenly Squire is our only real Starter. Meanwhile, One for One allows us to reach Edea without using a normal summon again, giving more maximum potential to our moves but at the cost of removing one other monsters, this can be a benefit or a loss depending on the starting hand.
Extra Deck
Knowledge to note
- Kuraz the Light Monarch can suffer from Miss timing
- You can destroy your own cards with Kuraz the Light Monarch for additional draws
- Many times you will want to destroy your Monarchs Spell/Trap so you can special summon from the Extra Deck when it prohibits you from Specializing from the ED (for example, the March of the Monarch card).
- March of the Monarchs prevents both of them from being targeted, so be careful of being crushed
- Ehther the Heavenly Monarch 's self-summoning effect can activate multiple times per turn
- Only the graveside effect of Pantheism of the Monarchs is one per turn
- Reveal 2 Tenacity of the Monarchs and 1 Monarchs Spell/Trap you want from Pantheism of the Monarchs' effect so you can be sure to get what you want
