Digital Bug is an archetype that uses mostly Insect-type monsters and focuses on Xyz-summoning its main monsters to destroy or return cards on the field to the hand. Digital Bug monsters mainly have effects related to the DEF of the monsters on the field. This is also an archetype that uses relatively low gems, so this is considered a F2P deck for those who do not deposit money and like to grind.
Instructions for playing Digital Bug
Sections covered in this guide:
Skill
Digital Bug does not have specific Skills to create its own gameplay. Digital Bug can use many Skills to diversify its tactics. Below are some skills that have been tested and have quite stable results.
Parasite Infestation (Skill Card) (Used for harassment)
This is a Skill used mainly to harass the opponent rather than supporting Digital Bug's gameplay. The condition of use is that there are 4 Insect monsters in the deck with different names. This condition is quite easy with Digital Bug. If the opponent draws "Parasite Paracide", they will not be able to do anything. But the effectiveness of this Skill is quite unfortunate because the ability to draw 1 or 2 "Parasite Paracide" cards in a standard Deck of 20 cards is quite difficult.
Overlay Regeneration (Skill Card) (Use to increase the stability of Rhinosebus)
This skill is used in combination with Tech Cards. Place a spell card in your hand below Digital Bug Corebage as an Xyz material for it to summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus without having to rely on Bug Signal .
Destiny Draw (Skill Card) (Used but not widely)
Used to be able to draw any card in the deck when your life points decrease by 2000. This is a fairly general Skill, but can be used with Tech Cards like Battlin' Boxer Veil , Sphere Kuriboh , or Stegocyber .
Endless Trap Hell (Skill Card) (For people who like to torture others)
Since the combo pieces of the deck are all Digital Bug monsters and Bug Signal spell cards, we have quite a bit of space for Tech Cards. Digital Bug has the potential to become a second Shiranui.
Core Card
These are cards that must be in the deck.
Digital Bug Websolder (x3)
Digital Bug Websolder
ATK:
500
DEF:
1500
Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of an Insect-Type monster. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up Attack Position monster you control; change it to Defense Position, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 3 Insect-Type monster from your hand in Defense Position. An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● If it is Xyz Summoned: The DEF of all face-up monsters your opponent controls become 0, also change them to Defense Position.
Digital Bug Websolder is the main monster of Digital Bug's combos. Digital Bug Websolder 's main ability is to special summon 1 additional Digital Bug monster to the field to then summon a Digital Bug Scaradiator .
Digital Bug Centibit (x3)
Digital Bug Centibit
ATK:
1500
DEF:
500
Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of an Insect-Type monster. Once per turn, when this face-up card is changed from Attack Position to Defense Position: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 Insect-Type monster from your Deck in Defense Position. An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● This card can attack all Defense Position monsters your opponent controls once each.
Digital Bug Centibit is also a combo piece that requires the use of 3 cards in the deck. With the effect of special summoning 1 level 3 Insect-type monster from the hand when Digital Bug Centibit 's attack position is changed. Because the conditions to activate this effect are quite difficult, we will normally use support Tech Cards such as Earthquake or Murmur of the Forest .
Digital Bug Cocoondenser (x3)
Digital Bug Cocoondenser
ATK:
0
DEF:
2000
Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of an Insect-Type monster. Once per turn, if this card is in Attack Position: You can target 1 Level 3 Insect-Type monster in your Graveyard; change this card to Defense Position, and if you do, Special Summon that monster in Defense Position. An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, your opponent's cards and effects cannot be activated until the end of the Damage Step.
Digital Bug Cocoondenser is a monster with a special effect that summons an Insect-type monster from the Graveyard to the field by changing its battle position. Although this effect seems easy to activate, you will be bricked when you draw this card in the early turns. However, this is still an important card and is usually played 3 cards in each deck.
Bug Signal (x3)
Bug Signal
Target 1 Insect Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 Insect monster that is 2 Ranks higher or lower than that monster you control, by using it as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to that target also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.) You can only activate 1 "Bug Signal" per turn.
Bug Signal is a card you must use 3 cards in the deck because it provides the ability to Rank Up from Digital Bug Corebage to Digital Bug Rhinosebus . Bug Signal is also a fast spell that allows it to be activated during the Battle Phase to end the battle or set and used on the opponent's turn. Bug Signal can be used as a decoy, making your opponent spend time solving it. Bug Signal can also be used on Digital Bug Corebage to avoid enemy destructive effects and summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus.
Digital Bug Scaradiator (x3)
Digital Bug Scaradiator
ATK:
1800
DEF:
1400
2 or more Level 3 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; change its battle position, and if you do, it has its effects negated until the end of this turn. Once per turn, when this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can attach that destroyed monster to this card as Xyz Material.
Digital Bug Scaradiator is a bridge to capture other Xyz monsters such as Digital Bug Corebage and furthermore Digital Bug Rhinosebus . This is a card that needs to be used 3 times in the Extra Deck. In addition to that effect, Digital Bug Scaradiator also has a quick effect that negates the effects of 1 monster on the opponent's field.
Digital Bug Corebage (x2)
Digital Bug Corebage
ATK:
2200
DEF:
1800
2 or more Level 5 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 3 or 4 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; shuffle it into the Deck. Once per turn, if the battle position of a monster(s) on the field is changed (except during the Damage Step): You can attach 1 Insect-Type monster from your Graveyard to this card as Xyz Material.
Digital Bug Corebage is often used to summon the main Xyz monster Digital Bug Rhinosebus . Also commonly used to return a monster in defense position on your opponent's field to the deck. You can directly summon Digital Bug Corebage by separating 2 materials from Digital Bug Scaradiator without having to use 2 Level 5 Insect-type monsters. Because there is not enough space in the Extra Deck, Digital Bug Corebage is often used. Use 2 cards, equal to the number of Digital Bug Rhinosebus .
Digital Bug Rhinosebus (x2)
Digital Bug Rhinosebus
ATK:
2600
DEF:
2200
2 or more Level 7 LIGHT Insect-Type monsters You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from a Rank 5 or 6 Insect-Type Xyz Monster you control, then using that Xyz Monster as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy the face-up monster(s) your opponent controls with the highest DEF (all, if tied).
Digital Bug Rhinosebus is Digital Bug's main monster with the ability to destroy without choosing a target, and has the ability to destroy all monsters on the opponent's field if the monsters on the field have equal DEF. This effect of Digital Bug Rhinosebus is a fast effect so it is often used to harass opponents or deal with monsters that are difficult to target like Lunalight Saber Dancer .
Tech Card
These are cards that are not required to be used in the deck but do affect the effectiveness of the deck or target different strategies.
Earthquake (Optimized recall)
Earthquake 's effect puts all your opponent's monsters and you in defensive position. This card is used to activate Digital Bug Centibit 's effects to special summon 1 Level 3 Insect-type monster from your hand and then perform your combo.
Book of Moon (Depends on the situation)
If you have the conditions to own it, Book of moon is a very good choice as it can both harass the opponent or use it in Battle Phase or Draw Phase to disable some of the opponent's face-up monsters.
Forbidden Lance (Depends on the situation)
If your opponent uses too many Spell/Trap cards to disrupt your combo, Forbidden Lance is a great choice.
Floodgate Trap Hole (Lock the yard)
Floodgate Trap Hole is a very powerful card when you draw it on your first turn with the ability to set your opponent's monsters when they are first summoned to the field. Setting your opponent's monster can give you more time to draw your combo pieces.
Paleozoic Canadia (Lock the field and harass opponents)
Paleozoic Canadia
Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. Once per Chain, when a Trap Card is activated while this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua/WATER/Level 2/ATK 1200/DEF 0). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap.) If Summoned this way, this card is unaffected by monster effects, also banish it when it leaves the field.
Paleozoic Canadia has the same field locking function as the Floodgate Trap Hole above. Although face-down monsters can still be raised next turn, Paleozoic Canadia has the additional effect of summoning itself from the grave when another Paleozoic Canadia is activated. Paleozoic Canadia is also unaffected by monster effects when summoned to the field
Fiendish Chain, Drowning Mirror Force and Curse of Anubis (Trap cards in general)
You can use any trap card to harass your opponent, but these cards are proven to be remarkably effective in major tournaments.
Murmur of the Forest (Depends on the situation)
Murmur of the Forest is a new pick that has been used more recently after Gaia and Triamid achieved much success in major tournaments. This card both activates the effect of Digital Bug Centibit and returns environmental spell cards to the hand.
Combo
Introducing some standard combos of Digital Bug.
Bug Signal, Digital Bug Centibit and Digital Bug Websolder (Standard turn 1 combo)
Conditions to perform combo:
- You must have Digital Bug Websolder, another Digital Bug monster , and another Bug Signal on hand. In this example, I will say you have Digital Bug Websolder and Digital Bug Centibit on hand .
- Summon Digital Bug Websolder to the field, activate its effect to change its battle position, and special summon 1 Digital Bug Centibit monster from your hand.
- Summon Xyz to Digital Bug Scaradiator .
- Summon Xyz to the Digital Bug Corebage by separating 2 Xyz materials from the Digital Bug Scaradiator .
- Set Bug Signal and end your turn.
- The Bug Signal you set is a quick spell that allows you to activate it during your opponent's turn. So, you can bait your opponent into focusing on destroying it for their combo by using Mystical Space Typhoon or Cosmic Cyclone . If your opponent does, you can activate Bug Signal's effect to target the Digital Bug Corebage on the field and summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus.
- If your opponent ignores Bug Signal and performs their combo, you can use Bug Signal to avoid targeted destructive effects (e.g. Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon ) so you can still Chain Bug Signal to summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus to avoid the destruction.
- If your opponent is comboing a monster that can destroy without targeting or you cannot chain Bug Signal to its summon (for example, Chaos Dragon Levianeer or Stellarknight Delteros ), then before they summon Bring back that monster. You should use Bug Signal to summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus . Then activate Digital Bug Rhinosebus 's effect to destroy their combo before they have a chance to execute it,
Digital Bug Centibit, Earthquake and Digital Bug Websolder (Standard combo turn 1 uses Skill Overlay Regeneration)
Conditions to perform combo:
- You must use Skill Overlay Regeneration.
- You must have Digital Bug Websolder, 1 more Digital Bug monster , and 1 any spell card in your hand . In this example, I will say you have Digital Bug Websolder , Digital Bug Centibit , and Earthquake on hand .
- This combo is quite similar to the combo above, but you will not have Bug Signal to support anymore but depends entirely on Digital Bug Rhinosebus .
- earthquake or any other spell that acts as an Xyz material when using Skill Overlay Regeneration .
- Summon Digital Bug Websolder to the field, activate its effect to change its battle position, and special summon 1 Digital Bug Centibit monster from your hand.
- Summon Xyz to Digital Bug Scaradiator .
- Summons Xyz to Digital Bug Corebage by separating 2 Xyz materials from the Digital Bug Scaradiator .
- Use Skill Overlay Regeneration , put Earthquake Go under Digital Bug Corebage to make Xyz material for it.
- Xyz summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus by separating 2 ingredients from Digital Bug Corebage
- End of turn.
- The situation for this combo is easy to predict as your sole purpose is to use Digital Bug Rhinosebus to destroy your opponent's combo before they can perform theirs.
- If your opponent is comboing a monster that can destroy without targeting or you cannot chain the effect of Digital Bug Rhinosebus to its summon (for example Chaos Dragon Levianeer or Stellarknight Delteros ) then before they summoned that monster. You should use Digital Bug Rhinosebus to destroy their combo before they have a chance to execute it,

An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● This card can attack all Defense Position monsters your opponent controls once each.

- This combo depends entirely on Digital Bug Rhinosebus .
- earthquake or any other spell that acts as an Xyz material when using Skill Overlay Regeneration .
- Summons Digital Bug Centibit to the field.

- Use Skill Overlay Regeneration , put Earthquake Go under Digital Bug Corebage to make Xyz material for it.
- Xyz summon Digital Bug Rhinosebus by separating 2 ingredients from Digital Bug Corebage
- End of turn.
- The situation for this combo is easy to guess as your sole purpose is to use Digital Bug Rhinosebus to destroy your opponent's combo before they can perform theirs.
- If your opponent is comboing a monster that can destroy without targeting or you cannot chain the effect of Digital Bug Rhinosebus to its summon (for example Chaos Dragon Levianeer or Stellarknight Delteros ) then before they summoned that monster. You should use Digital Bug Rhinosebus to destroy their combo before they have a chance to execute it,
Digital Bug Centibit and Earthquake (Combo turn 1 without using Digital Bug Websolder and Skill Overlay Regeneration)
Digital Bug Centibit
ATK:
1500
DEF:
500

Once per turn, when this face-up card is changed from Attack Position to Defense Position: You can Special Summon 1 Level 3 Insect-Type monster from your Deck in Defense Position. An Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as Xyz Material gains this effect. ● This card can attack all Defense Position monsters your opponent controls once each.

You should use Digital Bug Rhinosebus to destroy their combo before they have a chance to execute it,
