Instructions for summoning Pendulum
Although quite familiar to oldbies, for newbies just learning to play, the method of summoning Pendulum is still something quite new. This will be an article to guide newbies about this unique summoning method!
What is the Pendulum Beast?
Now before we get started with the Pendulum summoning method, we should start with the Pendulum Monster itself, as they can be quite confusing at first glance. Now let's take a look at this card:
Risebell the Summoner (For example)
WIND
32
Risebell the Summoner
ATK:
800
DEF:
800
[ Pendulum Effect ] Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; increase its Level by 1 (even if this card leaves the field). [ Monster Effect ] ''A kindly elder brother, Risebell takes good care of his little sister Saambell. He reads a Magical Book with his sister each early-afternoon, a harmonious routine that brings a smile to everyone.''
Now again, this might look crazy at the start, but let's break it down. Risebell the Summoner is a Normal Pendulum monster (no effects). You can Normal Summon it like any other Normal monster, and when it is on the field in a Monster Zone, it acts like a Normal monster , additionally if it is sent from the field to the grave (by any form), it will move to your Extra Deck , face up, instead.
What is the Pendulum Beast?
Now you may have noticed the text box and arrow above the regular text box. This is because the Pendulum monster is also a Spell . While acting as a Magic, the Pendulum monster only uses the top text box for its effects, acting similarly to a continuous Magic card with the effect listed in the top text box (it will also go into the Extra Deck face up instead of going to the grave). This is called the Pendulum Effect . In the case of Risebell the Summoner , while it is Magic, it can increase the Level of monsters on the field and can no longer attack, defend, or do anything else you would normally do with monsters (It should be noted that there are Pendulum Effect Monsters like Timegazer Magician that often have monster effects. Even though these cards are Magic, they can no longer use their Monster Effects). You can activate a Pendulum monster as Magic by placing it in the Pendulum Zone . Now what is Pendulum Zone? We'll cover that next!
What is Pendulum Zone?
When Arc-V World comes to Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, the leftmost and rightmost Spell & Trap Zones become Pendulum Zones .
You can still activate and place Spells and Traps in these Pendulum Areas like normal. The only difference is that Pendulum Monsters can only be activated as Spells in the Pendulum Zone. If both of your Pendulum Zones are occupied, you cannot activate Pendulum Monsters in the middle Spell & Trap zone. While in the Pendulum Zone, your Pendulum Monsters act as Magic and will only use their Pendulum Effects (effects listed in the Text Box above) and not their Monster Effects ( effects are listed in the Text Box below). Pendulum Monsters in your Pendulum Zone will also be sent directly to your Extra Deck instead of being sent to the grave.
Now the last thing you might notice are the arrows and numbers. These are called Pendulum Scales .

What is Pendulum Scale?
As you can see, with all Pendulum Monsters, there are two Arrows on either side with a corresponding number. These are called Pendulum Scales
In this example, the Timegazer Magician has a Scale of 8 while in the Pendulum Zone. While in the Pendulum Zone, the Pendulum monster's scale is considered active. While two Pendulum Scales are active (i.e. when you have 1 Pendulum Monster in both of your Pendulum Zones), you can finally perform a Pendulum Summon (We'll go into detail about Summoning Pendulum in the next part!)

How to summon Pendulum?
Once per turn, during the Main Phase, while you have a Pendulum Monster in both Pendulum Zones , you can perform a Pendulum Summon . Let's see an example:
As you can see, we have Stargazer Magician in our left Scale Pendulum with Scale 1 and Timegazer Magician in our right Pendulum Scale with Scale 8. Now we can perform a Pendulum Summon. . This means we can Special Summon a monster with a Level between the Pendulum Scale, from our hand and from a face-up Pendulum monster in our Extra Deck (Slight reminder, Pendulum Monsters will go into the Extra Deck face up instead of going to the grave). In this example, with the left Scale being 1 and the right Scale being 8, when we Summon Pendulum, we can Special Summon level 2 to 7 monsters from our hand and from the Pendulum monster face up in the Extra Deck, all at once!
You can only Special Summon monsters whose levels fall between the numbers on your Pendulum Scale. So, for example, if you have a left Scale of 4 and a right Scale of 6, you can only summon a Level 5 monster from your hand or face up from your Extra Deck. Additionally, if your Scales are the same or differ by 1 (e.g. Scale 4 and Scale 5), you cannot perform Pendulum Summon .
