Despia/Darklord is currently a tier 1 Deck in Duel Links at the time of writing this article, thanks to its powerful Theater of the Branded Opening ability and its ability to summon Fusions, revive monsters, and have outstanding field destruction effects.

Despia/Dark Lord Guide
This deck combines the Despia engine with Darklord cards , creating a flexible playstyle that works well both in the front and back lanes, with an impressive winrate (it went 11-0 in my playtest, losing only in the same matchup). This guide will break down the skills, card list, optimal odds, and strategies to help you optimize your deck in the current meta.
Sections covered in this guide:
Skill
Theater of the Branded's Opening (Skill Card) (100%)
The Theater of the Branded Opening ability is the heart of the deck, providing superior card advantage and easy combo setup. Specifically:
- Effect: You cannot special summon monsters, except Fallen of Albaz , Despia monsters, and level 8 or higher DARK or LIGHT monsters. Reveal a Despia or Branded Opening monster to add a Despia/ Branded Opening monster from your deck to your hand. You can then add another Despia, Theater of the Branded .
- When going later: You can send a Despia monster from your deck to the graveyard and add a Branded in Red , granting triple advantage.
This ability gives the deck significant card advantage (+1 when going first, +3 when going second), ensuring consistency and access to core cards like Branded Opening and Despia, Theater of the Branded .
Beast
Aluber the Jester of Despia (x2-3)
Main Starter card, allows to search for a Branded Spell/Trap card ( Branded Opening or Branded in Red ) when normally or special summoned.
In the graveyard, if a Fusion monster is destroyed or leaves the field by an opponent's effect, Aluber can negate an opponent's effect monster and special summon yourself. Play three copies to maximize, but if you run out, replace it with one Despia, Comedy of the Branded
Spell/Trap
Branded Opening (x2-3)
Discard a card in exchange for a Despia monster from the deck, add it to your hand, or special summon it in defense position (cannot be special summoned from the Extra Deck other than Fusion that turn).
In the graveyard, this card can also protect a Fusion monster destroyed by an effect (you can banish it Branded Opening to protect) provides a solid layer of protection
Branded in Red (x2)
Fusion Summon a Level 8 or higher monster by banishing material from the hand or field ( NOTE: it cannot attack directly that turn).
Can be transformed into a field destruction card during your opponent's turn when combined with Darklord Morning Star . Only activates once per turn.
Extra Deck
The First Darklord (x2)
The main card, summons Fusion with three DARK Fairy monsters, has the effect of banning the target on Fairy monsters + Destroying the entire enemy field + summoning to extend the combo ( In 1 turn, you can only choose 1 to clear the enemy field, 2 to summon 1 more Fairy ).
Play two copies to reduce the risk of bricking, or three if you want to maximize your summons.

Conclusion
The Despia/Darklord deck stands out for its consistency, regen, and field-breaking power, which fits the current Duel Links meta. The Theater of the Branded Opening ability provides superior card advantage, while cards like Masquerade the Blazing Dragon , Darklord the First , and Despian Quaretis create solid fields that are hard to break. To optimize, stick to a 15-card starter and consider tech cards like Book of Eclipse or Cosmic Cyclone to deal with the heavy backrow meta.
