Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning or Envoy is an 8-star, light-attribute warrior monster with ATK 3000 and DEF 2500. First appeared in Selection Box Vol.05
Envoy's effects are as follows:
Cannot be Normal Summoned / Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by removing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.
● Target 1 monster on the field; remove it. This card cannot attack while this effect is activated.
● If this attack card destroys your opponent's monster by battle: It can make a second consecutive attack.
The first thing you need to pay special attention to is that Envoy has not been assigned a number, this is very important because it can be mixed with cards that require Levianeer to sacrifice a few slots like Thunder Dragondark.
Next, the first time it is summoned, it must be removed from the game (banish) 1 light and dark, not banish any way like Levianeer, but Envoy banishes 2 (1 less than Levianeer) so If you play a deck like Lightsworn or Thunder Dragon, it's not too bad. After being special summoned in the above way, you can use cards like Monster Reborn to pull it up from the grave as usual.
Because of its effect, it doesn't have to jump out and click immediately like Levianeer, but has to go through a flashing stage, and not everyone can own it like Levianeer. So even though it has the Levianeer number, it is still superior to the Envoy in terms of its ability to deliver annoying bombardment.
Regarding mercenary ability, Envoy is more comfortable than Levianeer because it only needs to banish 1 LIGHT and DARK so Darkflare Dragon will one day leave gaia (or still x1 due to search and be used as material for search) .
Currently Envoy is hiring for 4 decks
Gaia
Lightsworn
Thunder Dragon
Burning Abyss
And carry from 0 to 2 cards.
For Gaia
Usually played x1 and cannot be searched (Gateway to Chaos can only search for RITUAL Black Luster Soldier monsters). Used to end the game or against non-destroyed cards and is CONSIDERED a staple. That's why Envoy can only be used x1 as a card depending on the situation and if you bring it too much in a deck filled with staples like Gaia, it will definitely brick.
In Thunder Dragon, Envoy is given up to 3 cards and may replace Levianeer in the future. However, Levianeer is too optimal when it can be used to jump Odd-Eyes Advance Dragon or banish to jump out and then activate the effect, Levianeer chain 1 and chain 2+ monsters so it is difficult to be countered and can be searched plus Levianeer too strong, and newly released cards tend to be played a lot for a while then abandoned, so it's still unknown where Envoy's future will go.
In my opinion, mixing Envoy is just a trend because:
- Burning Abyss Deck is currently full of DARK monsters except for Dante and Virgil who are LIGHT
- With a rate of 2% of players bringing x1 Envoy and up to 98% bringing x0, it proves that Envoy is still not trusted.
- Burning Abyss's speed is too fast so one is to be milled to the grave, two is to be peeled into the hand without jumping resources, usually will be OTKed before jumping out or jumping out even though you are about to win due to Farfa + Mind Of The Plana .
If anyone has ever played Lightsworn, they will know that this deck is actually an over/under in disguise. The ability to mill is 10/10, while the cards you don't need to go to the grave will go to the grave and the cards you need to go to the grave won't, but that's because of your bad luck. Because of its ability to mill graves so quickly and the addition of DARK, Lightsworn is believed to bring 2 Envoys. However, as I said above, the mill is very unlucky (3 Levianeers still go to the grave as usual, as do 2 Envoys). But Lightsworn is a very fun deck and fits Envoy very well.
I will not give advice, because my advice is not as old as your iron will. I just say this briefly: if you like it, scoop it up, if not, don't
